In response to her strong poem, Reflector Babe, Amy at Sharp Little Pencil received a link from Anna at HyperCRYPTIcal. It is to a UK ad considered the most shocking ad ever? Rape campaign aimed at teens to be shown. It’s sexually explicit (no ‘bits’ are shown), but it is powerful. This could not air in the US, I’m fairly certain, but the problem it addresses is very much an issue here.

And speaking of the UK, How news coverage evolves. Imagine how the Guardian “might cover the story of the three little pigs in print and online. Follow the story from the paper’s front-page headline, through a social media discussion, and finally to an unexpected conclusion.”

  1. Interesting that the UK rape ad would not be allowed on air in the US and yet the little tv ads I’ve seen while I been here would probably be unacceptable in the UK. I’m thinking of sex aids and ads for prescription medicines.

    If I had five years and was not so far behind on responding to comments at my site, I would click on everything this has to offer… but I did check out Goldie “Trout Pout” Hawn’s interview. Fascinating and (no other word for it) revealing. She had integrity and showed it, spoke truth to power! But her lips look exactly like “The First Wives’ Club,” in which she played a fading star who was so desperate to look young, she had her lips “done.” ON the set, they used saline… it was a smack at Meg Ryan… but she’s done what she had once parodied, and again, it’s a societal epidemic. If I ever dye my grey, somebody smack me! I earned every short strand. Love, Amy

  3. And yes, they can show all the damned people in TWO bathtubs for E.D. ads. And what does that ad mean, anyway?! I admire the folks who did that “advert” for the BCC. Bless ’em.

  4. I didn’t find that ad shocking. But, then, we have much stronger public service ads than the US does, too, so maybe I’m just used to it.

  5. That 3 Little Pigs ad from the Guardian is interesting. It’s accurate except for one thing. You see, the newspaper, even a mildly progressive dead tree sheet like the Guardian, would not be taking the lead here, but would be following along trying to keep up and be relevant. The ad is an attempt to subtly raise their standing in today’s information market.

    The cartoon is from Saturday Morning Breakfast Comic (SMBC) which I highly recommend. The horrible evil person who sent that to you should have given you the reference, including the number of the comic. You oughta tell that lazy jerk to go frack himself.
