Fatigued

oral surgery

I struggle to write when I’m fatigued.

My daughter wanted to see BOOP at Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady, but because of her work schedule and my Sunday plans, last Tuesday night was the best time. I will do a full-on review eventually, but we liked it well enough.

When I get home at 11 p.m., my body may say, “Go to bed.” Conversely, my mind is still cogitating, and I don’t get to sleep until after 1.

But on Wednesday morning, I get up early to make oatmeal for my wife and me. After she heads to work, I take a nap. I head to the former College of Saint Rose in my neighborhood.   The Massry Center for the Arts, where I have heard senior recitals for CSR students, is reopening under Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. (The Times Union link, which SHOULD be paywall-free, is here.)

After lunch with a friend, I return home and take ANOTHER nap, pretty much killing the day.

Thursday, I had some fairly minor oral surgery. The doc numbed the area with a shot, which was uncomfortable but not awful.

Going to the bank in person?

I went to my bank because I can’t access my balance online. As it turns out, the administrative office required a username of at least eight characters; mine was only seven. This process took longer than I expected. Then I visited a sick friend, went home to take out the trash, and attended choir rehearsal.

Friday, my mouth hurt at the surgical site. Taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen alternately worked pretty well. I had lunch with another friend and ended up sitting in the same section as my friend from Wednesday. (It was a different restaurant but the same last block on Madison Avenue; it’s a Smallbany thing.)

But on Friday night and Saturday, the OTC meds weren’t as effective, and ice wasn’t really helping either. It reminded me of a routine by a now-disgraced comic about a toothache; novocaine doesn’t alleviate pain, it postpones it. I napped on and off for hours. Then I woke up and wrote this.

So this isn’t a lazy blog post, just one written out of fatigue. I did read 150 pages of a book on Monday – 50 pages to go – which is good because I’m giving a book review a week from today. I love that massage chair.

At least I’m registered to vote. In New York State, to vote in the General Election, your application must be received by Saturday, October 24, 2026.  Here’s Hamilton 2026: Time for the Midterms.
